City of Glen Cove Inauguration Ceremonies Set for January 1 at 12 noon
Mayor Reginald Spinello and City Council Members to take Oath of Office
Glen Cove, NY, December 14, 2015…Glen Cove City Clerk Tina Pemberton announced today that the inauguration ceremony for Mayor Reginald Spinello will be held on Monday January 1, at 12:00 noon in the Main Chambers of Glen Cove’s City Hall. Glen Cove residents are invited to attend as the official oath of office is administered to Mayor Reginald Spinello and City Council members Joseph Capobianco, Nicholas A. DiLeo Jr., Pamela Panzenbeck, Efraim Spagnoletti, Timothy J. Tenke and Roderick Watson. Judge Paul Meli and Judge Joseph McCann will be officiating the oath of office for these elected City officials. In keeping with tradition, immediately following the ceremony, Mayor Reginald Spinello and the City Council will convene the first City Council meeting of his second term. “The inauguration offers a time for us to reflect upon the progress we have made in key areas including illegal housing, business development, fiscal responsibility and improving our City’s programs and services, “said Mayor Spinello. “I look forward to continuing to address the critical needs of our community as Glen Cove is on the cusp of realizing a future that will enhance the City’s reputation as a destination for commerce, recreation and waterfront living.

Glen Cove Teacher’s Association Carries on Tradition of Giving
Active Teachers and Retirees Donate Toys to Glen Cove Youth Bureau
Glen Cove, NY, December 15, 2015…For over 20 years the Glen Cove Teacher’s Association (GCTA) has collected and donated toys for the City’s less fortunate children. This tradition of generosity and giving continues in 2015 as Mayor Reggie Spinello joined the President of the Glen Cove Teacher’s Association, Karen Ferguson and Glen Cove Youth Bureau director Arlene O’Dell and program coordinator Sandra Potter to deliver the association’s presents to Glen Cove City Hall
The GCTA donated over 300 toys and they will be distributed to children during the Glen Cove’s Youth Bureau’s annual Milk & Cookies with Santa event.

Mayor Spinello was invited by Richard Rose, host of TV’s Exit 10/55 talk show, to discuss the Glen Cove Waterfront Project and the new designated train parking areas for Glen Cove residents. The show aired yesterday on Channels 10 and 55 and here is a link to the Mayor’s interview.
Glen Cove’s Single Stream Recycling Encourages Residents to Make Holiday Recycling a New Tradition
Glen Cove, NY, December 9, 2015…Tis the season to start a new holiday tradition says Glen Cove’s Department of Sanitation by recycling your paper holiday gift wrap, boxes and toys of yesteryear. As part of the Glen Cove’s Single Stream Recycling program’s “All In. One. Bin.” City residents can now recycle more items and the holidays are the perfect time to take advantage of this new effort. “In the first four months of our Single Stream Recycling program we have seen a 30% increase in our City’s commitment to recycling,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “With the holidays upon us it’s a great time to be on Santa’s nice list by thinking green.”
NY State Designates Glen Cove’s Orchard Neighborhood As A Brownfield Opportunity Area
Program Helps Revitalize Blighted Areas to Spur Economic Growth
Governor Cuomo announced the designation of 11 new Brownfield Opportunity Areas in communities across New York State. The program helps participants develop revitalization strategies focused on returning dormant and blighted areas into productive communities of economic growth and development. Projects in these areas will be given priority status for grants and the project developers may access additional Brownfield Cleanup Program tax credit incentives.
Glen Cove Celebrates the Season with the Blessing of the Crèche and Lighting of the City’s Grand Menorah
December 8, 2015, Glen Cove, NY…Glen Cove residents celebrated their religious diversity by enjoying two Village Square events as part of the City’s “Celebrate the Season” festivities. On Friday, December 4th, Father Daniel of St. Patrick’s and St. Rocco’s Catholic Churches provided the blessing of the City’s beautiful Crèche. The event, hosted by parishioner and former Glen Cove Police Sergeant, Jack McDougal featured special prayers, remarks from Mayor Spinello along with singers from the All Saints Choir, hot cocoa provided by the Downtown Café and a visit from Santa on a Glen Cove fire truck. This marked the 10th anniversary of the blessing of Glen Cove’s Crèche.
Glen Cove Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light Community Joins in Celebration at Tree Lighting Ceremony
December 2, 2015, Glen Cove, NY…A little rain didn’t dampen the holiday spirits of local residents who came to the City’s downtown Village Square to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light. The event hosted by Glen Cove’s Downtown B.I.D. and the City of Glen Cove, featured the lighting of the City’s Christmas tree, holiday music, hot cocoa and a visit from Santa himself who arrived via a Glen Cove fire truck.
Glen Cove Youth Bureau to Host “Milk and Cookies” with Santa Event at Glen Cove City Hall
December 1, 2015… Glen Cove’s Youth Bureau is excited to announce that Santa and his crafty “elves” will be stopping by City Hall Main Chambers Friday, December 18, 2015. Children from infancy to age 10, along with their families, are invited to attend this annual Milk and Cookies event. Festive cheer is sure to fill the air as children and their families enjoy cookies, milk, and a photo opportunity with Santa. “There is nothing that puts me in the holiday spirit more than enjoying Milk and Cookies with the jolly man himself,” Mayor Spinello said. “This is a classic holiday event for our children and I’m proud to host it here in City Hall.” Last year over 188 children from Glen Cove participated in the event and reservations are required.
Two sessions are available, 6:15 p.m. – 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. – 8 p.m. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Sandra Potter at 516-671-4600 beginning December 1st. Space is limited so don’t miss out!

November 18, 2015…The City of Glen Cove, Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Improvement District have joined together to invite Glen Cove and area residents to celebrate the holiday season in Glen Cove. “We are excited to offer an array of holiday events and activities that appeal to children of all ages,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “Glen Cove is the perfect holiday destination as there are great shops and boutiques, restaurants and with the 100th Anniversary of our Tree of Light, we are introducing our first Merry Tree Festival.” Local businesses have sponsored and will creatively decorate over 40 living Christmas Trees for a spectacular display on School and Glen Streets.” With the support of Glen Cove’s Parks & Recreation department and its Beautification Commission, after the holiday season, the trees will be placed in City parks and five trees will be planted to start Glen Cove’s first Christmas Tree Farm in Dennis Brian Murphy Park.
Glen Cove Anglers Club Donates Thanksgiving Turkeys To The Glen Cove Youth Bureau and Senior Center
Glen Cove, NY, November 23, 2015… Mayor Reggie Spinello joined Frankie Pena and Sal Groe of the Glen Cove Anglers Club as the organization donated Thanksgiving Turkeys to the Glen Cove Youth Bureau and Senior Center. Cindy Rogers of the Youth Bureau accepted the donation and the turkeys will be included in Thanksgiving baskets donated to local families in Glen Cove. For the Glen Cove Senior Center, the turkeys will be roasted and enjoyed during the Center’s annual Thanksgiving celebration luncheon. “We appreciate the generosity of the Glen Cove Anglers Club as they are vital and caring members of our community,” said Mayor Spinello.

City’s Christmas Tree Donated by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Tree to be Centerpiece of the 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light Celebration
Glen Cove, NY, November 24, 2015…Each year the City of Glen Cove launches a search to find the perfect Christmas Tree to anchor the City’s annual holiday festivities. For 2015, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church offered to donate a majestic Blue Spruce tree to the City so that all residents can enjoy its beauty. Glen Cove’s Department of Public Works (DPW) under the direction of Manny Grella and with assistance from Joe Douso of Woody’s Tree Service and National Grid, the group cut down the Blue Spruce tree and transported it to Glen Cove’s Village Square. DPW team members have decorated the tree with colorful lights and Glen Cove residents are invited to the City’s tree lightening ceremony on Saturday, November 28th at 4:45 p.m. in the Village Square. “With the 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light, this is a very special year for Glen Cove’s Christmas Tree and we appreciated the support of St. Paul’s Church,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “I am also excited to introduce a new holiday tradition with the unveiling of Glen Cove’s Merry Tree Festival on School and Glen Streets. Over 30 trees have been sponsored by area businesses and organizations and will be decorated with beautiful and creative ornaments for all to enjoy. “As part of the tree lighting festivities sponsored by the Glen Cove B.I.D., there will be a performance by the Glen Cove High School jazz band, free photographs with Santa sponsored by North Shore LIJ Glen Cove Hospital, ornament crafts and free hot cocoa donated by Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton.
A Bountiful Thanksgiving

Glen Cove’s Youth Bureau held its annual Thanksgiving Feast on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Carol A. Sucharski Youth Center. Students who participate in the Youth Bureau’s afterschool programming were invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Summer Youth Employment Program participants pitched in and baked an array of desserts, ending the night on a deliciously sweet note.

Glen Cove Boxing Club Fighting to Knockout Poverty On November 23rd
November 13, 2015… The Glen Cove Boxing Club is training five boxers to compete in the 12th Annual Long Island Fight for Charity on Monday, November 23, 2015. These volunteer boxers will climb into the ring with only one thing in mind, raising money for Long Island-based charities. Since its inception in 2002, LIFFC has raised almost a million dollars and they are hoping this year’s fighters will put them over the mark. Luis Batres, John Boccio, Chuck Campagna, Susan Vaughan, and Glen Cove’s very own Mike Graziose are all training for the upcoming event at the Glen Cove Boxing Club. Mayor Spinello dropped in on one of their recent training sessions to wish them well on their journey to the main event. “Frankie Pena does a great job with the Boxing Club and I’m proud of all of those training for this important charity event. I’m sure they will make Glen Cove proud on fight night, especially Mike Graziose, Glen Cove’s hometown fighter,” Mayor Spinello said.
